Van Der Sar Injury Not Serious

Manchester United fans will be relieved to hear that Edwin van der Sar did not suffer a serious injury during the 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Sunday.

The Dutch keeper had to subbed off during the first half of the hotly contested affair, prompting fears that he would have to sit out for an extended period. This was especially concerning considering that backup goalkeeper Ben Foster has just been ruled out for up to two months due to an injury he suffered while in action for the reserves.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has since confirmed that van der Sar only suffered a superficial injury and should be back for the next league match against Bolton.

“He got some studs in the kneecap and there was a bit of swelling there,” said Sir Alex on the club's official website. “Hopefully he’ll be okay for next week.”

Tomasz Kuszczak, who filled in competently in place of van der Sar , should be entrusted with the gloves when Middlesbrough visit Old Trafford for their Carling Cup clash on Tuesday.
