Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo warns Chelsea 'bullies' to stay clear

The Manchester United attacker made his first team return on Wednesday from a two-month ankle lay-off, coming on as a substitute against Spanish outfit Villarreal in the Champions League.

The Portugal international is expected to be named on the bench again for the trip to Stamford Bridge to face his former national team boss Luiz Felipe Scolari, with his manager Sir Alex Ferguson cautious to start him so soon after recovering his summer-long injury following surgery in July.

But whether he starts or comes on as a substitute, Ronaldo has told Chelsea he is prepared for whatever defence they have against him.

"I'll do my damage as usual by paying them all back with my goals," said Ronaldo, who won the coveted European Balloon D'or prize after scoring 42 goals last term.

"I know that the attempts to intimidate me on the pitch will start again immediately – but everyone finds sooner or later that it is difficult to make me lose my rag.

"I'll be booted again but I will not kick out when it happens. I'm tough and, again, it's all just part of the spectacle."

United have not endured the best of starts to the Premier League this season, taking four points in their opening three contests, but Ronaldo is not concerned by the form of the Champions and expects Sir Alex Ferguson's men to swiftly embark froward – as they did last year, celebrating both the Premier League and Champions League success.

He said: "There's no problem at all with our form. Last year we started like this, look how we ended up

If United lose, however, on Sunday, they will drop nine points behind their title rivals, Chelsea. But midfielder Darren Fletcher believes Ronaldo's return can galvanise the rest of the squad to get their season going.

Speaking to The Sun this morning, the Scotland international said: "Ronaldo is the best player in the world and any team would miss him.

"Obviously, it was the first game since his injury and he's got back quicker than was expected. That's down to his dedication and professionalism.

"He came on, had a chance and he looked sharp. Hopefully, he can kick-start our season."
