Evans Set To Feature Against Chelsea

Mancheser United's young defender Jonny Evans is set to start the side's Premier League clash with Chelsea after impressing Sir Alex Ferguson midweek.

The 20-year old looked solid alongside Rio Ferdinand in the heart of the Red Devils' defence as Ferguson's men got their Champions League campaign underway against Villarreal on Wednesday.

With Nemanja Vidic suspended for the clash between last season's champions and runners-up due to his sending off against Liverpool, Evans has proved to be a popular alternative to partnering Ferdinand in the centre, and Ferguson was particularly impressed with the youngster's maturity.

“Nemanja Vidic is suspended and that’s why I played Jonny,” the manager told Sky Sports

The manager added on MUTV: “He was unlucky to hit the inside of the post in the second half and he had another header that went just by the post.

“But he did very well. He’s a young lad and had good experience on loan last season at Sunderland. He’s only 20 but shows great composure, is a good passer of the ball and reads the game very well. We’re pleased with his progress.”

Chelsea's own defence has been boosted by the news that John Terry's dismissal against Manchester City has been revoked, a decision that angered Ferguson who felt it displayed favouritism towards the the west Londoners.
